Moreton Island - Mulgumpin
Escape
The diversity of camping on the island needs to be experienced to be believed.
- West side camping includes. The Wrecks, Ben-Ewa and Comboyuro. Sheltered bay waters and shady campsites make the perfect spot for families and magic sunsets
- North Point campground offers large grassy campsites with access to surf beaches and honeymoon bay. Camping gear needs to be carried onto the grassy spots
- The East of the island includes camping zones simply called North and South plus the stunning Blue Lagoon camp area. These sites have a natural rugged beauty to them with access to great surfing and cracking fishing. They’re mostly shady sites, perched in the sand dunes which can leave you a little bit more exposed to the elements. You will need to be self-sufficient in certain zones, so be sure to do diligent research on all available amenities.

Adventure
Don’t forget to throw in a body board as sand surfing is a must. ‘The Desert’ located behind Tangalooma resort is the perfect spot to have a go.
On the barge across you’ll notice some very distinct shipwrecks really close to the beach as you pull up. Don the swimming gear, grab a snorkel and go under to discover the endless amounts of marine life the area has to offer. (Not in a Frontier Tourers rig….they don’t swim)
If kicking back with a decent feed and a few drinks is your idea of adventure, we’re with you. Take the trip down towards the southern end of the island stopping along the way for a few of the freshest rock oysters the region has to offer. Then if you can getaway…..treat yourself at The Gutter Bar, the food and views will make you want to relocate your camp and set up down here forever.
Don't forget
Book the barge as soon as you can…you’ll soon discover why it sells out so fast.
Remember this is a sand island with limited access in case you need help. Do your research, get your tyre pressures right and familiarise yourself with recovery processes before you go. Check the tides before you travel and if something doesn’t look right don’t be afraid to ask other 4wders or locals for guidance.
Frontier Tourers are always happy to assist in any way we can.
We are the world famous Gutter Bar, a restaurant, bar and general store located in Kooringal, on the southern tip of Moreton Island. We pride ourselves in delivering some of the freshest seafood, coldest beers and the best vibes on the island.
